A five-year cooperative agreement with the US-CDC focused on institutionalizing in-service training for HIV management in Nigeria. CCCRN established ten training centres in tertiary health facilities serving the Federal Capital Territory, Gombe, Nasarawa, Benue, Ekiti, Lagos, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Kaduna States. The project strengthened hospital resource persons and training infrastructure to integrate HIV/TB training and practicum into routine service delivery. It also developed a curriculum and training programme for Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) to strengthen their capacity to provide expanded HIV services. More than 130 national trainers were trained, while over 8,600 healthcare workers received in-service training in areas including Adult ART, Pediatric ART, PMTCT, HCT, TB/HIV, and other infectious disease-related areas.
