The Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA 1) is a comprehensive initiative funded by USAID to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on vulnerable children and their caregivers through clinical referrals, psychosocial support, and household economic strengthening.
CONTEXT

The Vulnerability Gap

Children orphaned or made vulnerable by infectious diseases face compounded risks of malnutrition, school dropout, and untreated illnesses without comprehensive case management.

The gap between national health policies and localized implementation creates a critical vulnerability. When communities lack ownership and immediate access to resources, entire health systems struggle to function effectively under pressure.

70%

of enrolled orphans had disrupted schooling prior to case management interventions.

98%

viral suppression attained among HIV-positive children enrolled in the ICHSSA cohort.

OUR APPROACH

Holistic Child & Caregiver Support

ICHSSA utilizes a 4-pillar model covering Health, Schooling, Safety, and Stability to address every dimension of child vulnerability.

Comprehensive pediatric HIV testing, linkage, and treatment adherence support.
Block grants and emergency health insurance coverage for destitute households.
Child protection case monitoring and legal advocacy against child abuse.
Vocational skills training and startup kits for adolescent older youths.
Community Healthcare Story
"Ensuring that every vulnerable child has access to healthcare, education, and protection is the most profound investment a nation can make."

— DR. EMMANUEL B., TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
